1,500 unhoused LA residents died on the streets during pandemic, report reveals
My family and I spent our Thanksgiving Holiday in LA and the homeless epidemic is truly staggering there. Back home in Austin things have progressively gotten worse year over year with more of our citizens being forced to live in tents in the woods, in their cars, or on the street. My daughter and I had an interesting conversation about how varied the reasons are for people to become unhoused, and how that means that many different solutions are going to need to be employed to solve this crisis. This article at The Guardian puts into some perspective just how dire the situation is. In the nearly 2 years since the pandemic began nearly 1500 people have died on LA Streets (notably the article states that this is likely an undercount). Finding a way for people of all socio-economic levels to live a life with access to the services they need, and genuine dignity is something we all have to be working toward, every day. – Marshall
