Building a ‘main street’ from parking lots
With the CNU conference quickly approaching in Oklahoma City, Tulsa is hoping to grab some attention with some small infrastructure improvements they are working on that contributes to a bigger project. With the overall goal of converting parking lots into a Main Street, they’re short term goal is connecting the four quadrants together. The location for this project is located at the intersection of two major roadways, each six lanes. Currently, you are not able to get from one quadrant to another without having to drive across the street. In order to create a walkable environment, they are planning to create a loop that connect the four quadrants with each other. To further contribute to the walkability, they are wanting to connect the surrounding residential uses to this loop as well. Although the development of the Main Street is important, it is much more significant to be able to have people get around within the development. –Karina
A Real Opportunity to Break the Cycle of Homelessness
This article headline caught my eye because it mentions two things that have been on my mind a lot lately: addressing the growing issue of homelessness and making progress without busting city budgets. After reading this, I'm looking forward to digging into what The Denver Supportive Housing Social Impact Bond Initiative has done to break the cycle between homelessness and the criminal legal system and how the city used its budget creatively to bring positive, sustainable change. –Kevin
