About Maddie

Madeleine "Maddie" Capshaw is experienced in both public and private sector planning, design, and implementation. She understands the importance of creating positive impact through the planning process and does so with dedication from start to finish. Her experience includes site analysis and design, entitlements, master planned community planning and design, comprehensive planning, parks and recreation master planning, downtown master planning, and gathering space design. She coordinates and leads community engagement events and activities, creates renderings and illustrations, performs GIS analysis and mapping, and crafts policies based on community feedback, research, and best practices. One of Maddie's biggest interests in planning and design is the integration of beautiful and functional parks, patios, plazas, and other gathering spaces that create landmarks, honor history, provide green space, and create a well-knit sense of place.

Q&A with Maddie

What do you do outside of work?

I love a lot of different things – Kayak fishing, hiking, camping, gardening, and pretty much anything else that involves nature brings me the most joy. I also enjoy traveling to new places, attending concerts, dancing, volunteering, and cooking (not just in the kitchen but also outside on the smoker)!

Music you put on while you’re working?

I enjoy a range of genres including Texas country, 70s and 80s rock, rap, pop, grunge, metal, indie, americana, and the list goes on and on. I think that food and music are similar in the way that they provide opportunities to explore and experiment with different tastes, so I try to do so!

One book (or more, if you must) you'd recommend that you've read in the last 2 years?

Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance by Angela Duckworth. I read it as part of a book club in February 2023 and it really stuck with me.
