About

Matthew is a recent SMU graduate, finishing his M.S. in Environmental Engineering in the Winter of 2021. In his relatively short professional career, he has played a role in a wide variety of projects including commercial/residential land development, Americans with Disabilities Act retro-fits, GIS land use analysis and more. He strives to build social capital through engineering by having pedestrian-centric designs that foster community.

As Matthew continues to gain experience, his passion for sustainability and environmentalism will bring the right headspace to be an innovative thinker in the field. With over 1000 community volunteer hours, he is well in-tune with everyday people. He believes that if cities provide spaces that foster interpersonal connections, people will begin to take ownership of not just what's inside their homes, but what is inside their cities.

Just because…

What do you do outside of work? Anything outdoors. I love camping, rock climbing, gardening, and boating. If I can justify it, I also love to play open world RPG video games.

Favorite podcast? Dan Carlin's Harcore History, Lex Fridman podcast, and In Search of Soil

Music you put on while you’re working? Generally I don't listen to music while working unless my podcast rotation has gone stale, that being said if I am I like to listen to classic rock and older hip hop.

One book (or more, if you must) you'd recommend that you've read in the last 2 years? In Defense of Food by Micheal Pollan, Bowling Alone by Robert Putnam, How Schools Work by Arne Duncan

Favorite childhood breakfast cereal? Plain ‘ole Cheerios with milk
